Thoughtful Personalised Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day

With Mother’s Day around the corner (30th March if you were wondering), it’s the perfect time to think about how you can make this day extra special for the women who mean the most to you. While flowers and chocolates are a classic choice, personalised gifts have the power to truly show how much you care. They add that personal touch that turns a simple item into a cherished memory.
At Odeta B Calligraphy, I specialise in creating custom gifts that feature hand engraving, calligraphy, and pyrography. But today, I wanted to share my ideas that focus on thoughtful, personalised gifts you can give - whether you’re crafting something yourself or looking to commission a special keepsake. I have included suggestions and links to some of my favourite choices, to try and save you some time if you are on a time crunch or have no idea where to look.

Why Personalised Gifts are more Thoughtful
Personalised gifts stand out because they’re tailored to the individual. Instead of picking something off the shelf, you’re choosing something that speaks directly to the person’s personality, hobbies, or interests. When you consider their tastes and needs, your gift becomes more than just a present - it becomes something meaningful they’ll cherish for years to come, and shows that you have spent time thinking about them and not just gifting for the sake of it.
Personalised Gift Ideas with a Personal Touch
For the Self-Care Enthusiast
If your mum is someone who loves a bit of relaxation and pampering, a gift that encourages self-care will always go down well. Consider gifting her a spa set - you can either buy one or create your own with bath salts, lotions, face masks and candles. You could even turn it into a DIY spa day by planning a girls' night in complete with face masks, a cosy blanket, a home cooked dinner (or a cheeky takeaway, I'm not judging!), and a few movies to unwind together.
For something more practical, bath bombs, bubble bath foam or even shower steamers are a wonderful choice, or even a new set of satin pyjamas!
For the Wine Lover
If your mum enjoys a tipple, why not elevate the experience with something more personal? A bottle of good wine or a premium bottle of spirits, paired with a custom hand-engraved glass or decanter, can make her feel truly special. It’s an elegant and thoughtful way to combine both luxury and personalisation. Whether you engrave her initials, a meaningful date, or a short quote, it’s a gift she’ll use time and time again. I also offer the option to engrave the bottle itself, which makes it even more special. Every time she uses that glass or sees that bottle, she’ll think of you!
For the Homebody
Some mums love nothing more than a quiet day at home. If your mum enjoys cosy evenings and staying in, why not treat her to a personalised home décor item? A custom family name sign, a hand-lettered quote she loves, or even a hand-burned pyrography plaque would make a warm and welcoming addition to her home.
Candles or wax melt sets are also always a lovely idea (and they eventually burn out so there
is always an excuse for more!). Yankee Candles are always a good classic, tried and tested they burn so evenly and smell incredible, or I also like the crackling Wood Wick ones - but there are so many wonderful options and scents out there and you are sure to find one that your mum will love. Bonus tip, you can get the candles engraved too!
A hand engraved candle with florals A hand engraved diffuser bottle My other preferred choice are reed diffusers; they are perfect for anyone that loves their home to smell nice (and who doesn't?!). I have tried so many and I always go back to the Next Collection Luxe range - they last a long time and actually smell! I have also tried the OLGA Grapefruit & Mango reed diffuser which was a worthy purchase so definitely recommend.
Finally, essential oil diffusers now come in so many shapes and sizes with beautiful colours, combining beautiful smells with a calming centrepiece, great for relaxing and unwinding. My favourite is the Porseme Glass Diffuser. Paired with a set of essential oils, it's a great gift that will open your mum up to the world of aromatherapy.
For the DIYer or Crafter
If your mum is crafty and loves to create, or just loves having new stationery, why not gift her a writing stationery set complete with a wax seal set. You could also personalise some tools for her craft - a personalised scrapbook for vision boards or notebook to jot down her ideas - it’s a great way to show you support her passions. Beautifully designed stationery can inspire creativity, whether it is for journaling and mindfulness, or sending letters and gifts to loved ones.
What I personally love about crafting is that there are so many different crafts out there, including comprehensive gift sets that can get you started immediately. I have linked some of my recommendations below:
- Quilling
- Colouring (I know it seems silly, but colouring is no longer just for children. It is really relaxing and there are so many colouring books out there now aimed at adults because it is so popular!). Recommend to combine this with a set of some marker pens.
- A personalised jigsaw puzzle (or just a normal one!)
- Macrame
Ok so I could keep going, but hopefully this gives you a good idea - there are SO many more options. You could also search for local craft workshops - like pottery or pottery painting, 'Sip n Paint', or even a cooking lesson or a lesson on making great latte art - that way you could make a day of it. I have previously attended a few cooking lessons at Ashburton Cooker School, and also recommend Will's Coffee for great latte art lessons (if based in/near Devon), but I'm sure you could find something closer to you if not. If you are local to Devon, I also offer 1:1 calligraphy workshops, if you fancy buying her a voucher :)
If your budget is not so generous, a craft lover will definitely appreciate a handcrafted gift too, so you could make something instead. A personal photo album/scrapbook with all your favourite memories, or a piece of art using some of the crafting ideas I mentioned would not only give you a creative release, but would definitely make an impression on your mum :) I have provided some more DIY ideas down below so keep on reading to get more inspiration.
For the Sentimental Soul
If your mom loves sentimental gifts, something personal that speaks to her heart will go a long way. Hand-engraved jewellery with a meaningful date or initials is a great way to create a timeless keepsake she’ll treasure. Another idea is a wooden plaque or sign that reflects her family or personal values. Adding something like the coordinates of a special place or an important family date, or even a family tree can turn these into treasured mementos. This is something you can get commissioned through me, or you could give it a go yourself!
For the Book Lover
Ahh - books. I love reading, so if she does, then another book in her collection will not go amiss. There is a lovely bookshop in Launceston, Devon - Black Cat Books - which I definitely recommend you visit - they sell a mix of old and new books, as well as some handcrafted gifts too - 2 in 1 if you ask me!
Besides more books, accessories are always a great addition to any readers collection.
Something like a book reading light (I recently bought this one and love it!), bookmarks (I make a variety of custom bookmarks if that helps), and a book page holder (I keep meaning to buy myself one).
For the Social Butterfly
If your mum is someone who enjoys hosting, something like a personalised serving tray, chopping board or engraved glassware could be perfect. Whether it’s a special date or her family’s name etched into a beautiful piece of wood, these items will elevate any gathering. Pair it with a bottle of wine, and you’ve got a gift that will be used and admired by everyone.
And if she also has a favourite fragrance, or just loves perfume, getting her a hand engraved perfume is a beautiful and elegant gift she can use and adore.
DIY Gift Ideas That Are Personal and Thoughtful

Not all great gifts need to be expensive. Sometimes, the best presents are the ones you make yourself. Here are a few ideas that won’t break the bank but still show your thoughtfulness:
Handmade Voucher Book
Create a “voucher book” filled with things like a home-cooked meal, a spa day at home, or an evening of Netflix and her favourite snacks. It’s a fun, thoughtful, and cost-effective way to show your mum that you appreciate everything she does.
Memory Jar
Fill a jar with small notes, memories, and reasons why you love her. It’s a personal, heart
warming gift that she can keep on her desk or bedside table. This simple DIY gift is sure to bring a smile to her face every time she reads a new note.
Custom Recipe Book
If your mum loves to cook, consider gathering all her favourite recipes into a custom recipe book. You can add personal notes, photos, or even hand-lettered titles to make it extra special. This thoughtful gesture will help her keep track of her favourite dishes while reminiscing over good memories.
Personalised Playlist or Mix Tape
Curate a playlist of songs that remind you of her, or put together a mix tape of her favourite tunes. You can create a CD or put it on a USB drive in a custom-engraved box, or simply share a digital playlist with a personal message. This thoughtful, easy gift shows you’ve put effort into thinking about her favourite things.
Spend Time with Her
I sort of already alluded to this earlier but it needed to be said again. Whilst a gift is always lovely and I'm sure would be welcome, the best gift you could give her is your time. So if you can, try and plan some time to go and see her, spend a few hours, an afternoon or the day with her. And if that is not possible, make sure you at least remember to ring her and wish her a Happy Mother's Day and tell her you love her - a text may be quick and convenient, but a phone call will certainly be more appreciated and thoughtful.
Wrapping It All Up

No matter what you decide, remember that the best gifts are the ones that show you’ve put thought into them. Consider your mum’s personality, hobbies, and the things that make her feel special, whether it's a relaxing night in, a family keepsake, or an elegant wine glass.
Personalised gifts can help you make this Mother’s Day extra meaningful, and they don’t have to be expensive to be thoughtful. Whether you buy, craft, or combine both, the key is in showing that you truly understand what will make her happy.
If you’re still on the hunt for the perfect personalised gift, I’d love to help create something special, so feel free to browse my online store, or get in touch for a custom request - though be quick to avoid disappointment! I believe in the power of thoughtful, custom gifts that bring joy - and I’m here to make sure your Mother’s Day is one to remember.
I hope this has been helpful and given you some ideas for what to do - if you did find this useful please like, comment and share :)
P.S. I look forward to writing some more helpful blogs in the future, something I have been putting off for a while!
All my best,
Odeta x
